Abstract

The paper presents results of research according to American MSCR procedures specifying the bitumen creep under dynamic loading. This method allows, on the basis of the characteristics of the binder, to predict the possibility of the forming of permanent strain in the layer at the high ambient temperatures and at low and high shear stresses. The study was performed for bitumen 35/50 and 50/70 which were subjected to modification by means of synthetic wax derived from the synthesis of Fischer-Tropsch (FT) in amounts of 1.5%, 2.5% and 3.5%. Assessment of the impact of synthetic wax on the basic properties of bitumen was enriched with quantitative analysis of the morphology by using a fluorescent microscope. The study of asphalt concrete AC 11 S was performed with modified bitumen. Asphalt concrete was compacted at temperatures of 115°C, 130°C and 145°C as well. Based on the analysis of results the conclusions were drawn concerning the impact of modified bitumen on the elastic stiffness modulus at temperatures of 2°C and 20°C.
