We received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Professor Dariusz Sybilski, PhD, DSc, Eng., who died on 4 June 2026. He was an outstanding scientist, a respected expert in the field of road engineering, and a long-standing employee of the Road and Bridge Research Institute, where he headed the Pavement Technology Department.
Professor Dariusz Sybilski was among the most distinguished specialists in road pavement technology, enjoying recognition both nationally and internationally. Through his knowledge, experience, and exceptional dedication, he contributed for many years to the development of Polish engineering thought in the field of road construction. With great passion, he shared both theoretical and practical knowledge with successive generations of researchers and engineers.
For many years, he was a member of the International Editorial Board of the journal “Roads and Bridges – Drogi i Mosty”, published by the Road and Bridge Research Institute since 2002. His scientific and publishing activities were closely aligned with the mission of this quarterly, devoted to the development of modern technologies for the design, construction, and maintenance of road pavements.
The Professor's rich scientific achievements and his contribution to the development of the journal “Roads and Bridges – Drogi i Mosty” will remain a lasting testament to his work, passion, and accomplishments. They are reflected, among others, in articles published in the quarterly, such as: “Evaluation of low temperature properties of bituminous binders and asphalt mixtures”, “Evaluation of effectiveness of use of FWD for assessment of pavement interlayer bond”, “High modulus asphalt concrete with local mineral aggregates”, and “Laboratory research and full scale testing of high modulus asphalt concrete in road pavement”.
We bid farewell to the Professor with gratitude for his work, wisdom, and dedication to science. We extend our sincere condolences to his Family, Loved Ones, and Colleagues.
