Geotechnical properties of cohesive soils from Bialystok area improved by cement and lime

Abstract
The paper relates to tests of geotechnical properties of improved soils by cement and lime addition for construction embankments and road pavement. The purpose of the investigation was the determination of influence of cement and lime addition on the compactibility and shear parameters of cohesive soils. The addition of cement CEM II/B-V 32,5 R caused an increase of maximum dry density, however the addition of lime caused a decrease of maximum dry density in the case of tested soils. The addition of cement for cohesive soil caused an increase of compressive strength. Tests of improved cohesive soil performed in direct shear apparatus showed an increase of shear strength of lime-soil.
